The Insulated Render and Cladding Association (INCA) 2014 Awards were presented by former England cricketer Darren Gough at a black-tie gala dinner on 16 October in front of 300 industry guests.

The awards showcased how External Wall Insulation has been used successfully over the past year to ensure buildings are not only energy efficient but have a positive impact on the people who live or work in them and the wider community.

Alumasc Façade Systems were shortlisted for 5 projects and were delighted that three of these were highly commended by INCA:

Domestic Refurbishment – Low Rise:
– Elm Grove Flats, Newcastle Upon Tyne
– The Green, Essex

Domestic Refurbishment – High Rise:
– Sunningdale, Merseyside

Following on from the huge success of last year’s inaugural event and with support from a range of stakeholders including CITB, E.ON and QANW, the event at the prestigious Sheraton Park Lane Hotel in London was the perfect platform to showcase how EWI is ‘Transforming Buildings, Changing Lives’ to the benefit of individuals, families and local communities.

INCA Chairman Pádraig Barry, undertaking his first official engagement since being elected in July, said:

“It has been a difficult year for the EWI industry and changes to ECO and GDHIF have left many with a feeling of uncertainty. That is why I am particularly proud to see our members rising to the challenge in the Awards and it was very rewarding to see the wide range of projects that not only demonstrate skill and innovation, but have helped so many people in fuel poverty.”

Alumasc would like to congratulate all involved with Kilburn Gate in London, a 1950s residential development which claimed the Project of the Year Award.

EWI and Render Systems used on Liverpool’s Everyman Theatre

Alumasc Façade Systems External Wall Insulation and Render Systems were used on the Liverpool Everyman Theatre winner of the 2014 Royal Institute of British Architects Awards (RIBA) Sterling Prize, the world’s most prestigious architecture prize, following its redevelopment which took place over the last two years. The award was presented to the architects behind the development, Haworth Tompkins, at a ceremony held at the Royal Institute of British Architects in London.

The new Everyman theatre has been designed to be highly environmentally stable with recycled materials featuring throughout, including 25,000 bricks from the old Everyman. It combines the trademark wrap-around auditorium and basement bistro with a number of other new facilities. The front of the building also features the old neon sign together with new revolving aluminium facades which form a Portrait Wall comprised of 105 diverse people of Liverpool.

The RIBA judges said the new Everyman is “an extraordinary contribution to both theatre and the city, achieved through clever team working – client, architect, consultants and contractor – where the new truly celebrates the past.”

Westdale Services Ltd Welcome Amber Rudd to Telford

Westdale Services has recently met with Amber Rudd MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department of Energy and Climate Change. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss various aspects of External Wall Insulation (EWI) and Green Deal initiatives. This is particularly relevant following the recent announcement by the UK Government that an additional £100 million has been added to the household energy efficiency fund. Applications for a new phase of the Green Deal Home Improvement Fund (GDHIF), designed to help people make energy saving improvements to their home, will open to households before the end of November.

Ms Rudd, along with representatives from Westdale, visited current works being undertaken for the Green Deal Communities Award Scheme in Telford. The External Wall Insulation System being used on this project is Alumasc’s Swisslab system, a BBA approved, fully warranted insulated render system.

Westdale Services have successfully installed Alumasc External Wall Insulation systems on projects across the UK for many years. Both companies continue to promote External Wall Insulation as a high performance, energy saving solution which has the added benefit of transforming the exterior appearance of the properties it is applied to.

The household energy efficiency fund boosted by £100 million

Green Deal Fund External Wall InsulationMore people will now be able to enjoy warmer homes and control their energy bills more efficiently due to an additional £100 million being implemented into the household energy efficiency fund.

Applications for a new phase of the Green Deal Home Improvement Fund, designed to help people make energy saving improvements to their home, will open to households before the end of November.

Further details including terms and conditions, rates and all measures to be covered will be announced in November.

Energy and Climate Change Secretary Edward Davey said:

“More money means more people can live in warmer, greener homes sooner.
“Green Deal Home Improvement Fund vouchers went like hot cakes earlier in the year and now even more people can cut their energy bills by making their homes more energy efficient.”

Energy and Climate Change Minister Amber Rudd said:

“We’ve already taken £50 off energy bills but we know that the best way for households to cut their bills is to use less energy.

“Over three quarters of a million homes have already had energy saving improvements installed as a result of the Energy Company Obligation and Green Deal schemes and it makes sense to help even more families install measures so that they see the benefits of lower bills and a warmer home for years to come.”

The £100 million announced today is in addition to the £450 million allocated to household energy efficiency over three years, which was announced in December 2013.
