Alumasc would like to congratulate registered installer Westdale for winning Insulation Installer of the Year at this years National Energy Efficiency & Retrofit Awards.

The National Energy Efficiency & Retrofit Awards were launched in July 2015 following the changes in Government Energy Efficiency Policy. Previously known as the Green Deal & ECO Awards, these awards were set up in 2014 to help motivate the energy efficiency sector in their delivery of the Green Deal Finance Initiative and Energy Company Obligation Scheme.

The aim of the Energy Efficiency & Retrofit Awards is to provide public recognition for the excellent work the Energy Efficiency sector is doing in implementing these schemes. And to help encourage best practice within the Energy Industry as it works to improve UK housing stock.

Alumasc has enjoyed a successful relationship with Westdale Services for many years, the award is richly deserved for their outstanding work installing high quality EWI systems.

Rugby Star unveils transformation at Bron Afon social housing project

bron3Construction partners, local residents and regional press, recently attended an open day, hosted by Alumasc’s Registered Contractor Westdale Services Ltd, to celebrate the successful refurbishment of a new housing scheme managed by Bron Afon Housing Association.

Rugby legend Scott Quinnell was guest speaker at the event. Mr Quinnell who has served in the British Lions and as Welsh Rugby Captain, unveiled the transformation to the Bron Afon scheme at Monmouth Close, New Inn, Cwmbran, which was refurbished using an EWI and render system from Alumasc.

At the unveiling, he commented:

“These homes look beautiful, you would never know they are the same buildings as before.”

Westdale Services Ltd have a long track record of successful refurbishments using Alumasc EWI systems and have so far installed the Swistherm system to 10 of the blocks, which were previously clad in PVC. The old façade was replaced with marine grade ply, to which the Swistherm system was installed. The blocks were then finished in 1.5mm Mineral Render, also from Alumasc, with silicone façade paint in off white and light grey.

More than 50 members of the public and New Inn Primary School children joined the street party atmosphere on Monmouth Road and took part in the ceremony which went on for several hours, with awards handed out to some of the workers involved with the refurbishment. Bron Afon also commemorated the Queen’s 90th birthday and presented a plaque as part of the opening.

Business development manager for Westdale Services, Iain Wheeler, said: “Working with Bron Afon, Alumasc and residents to give a much-needed boost to the flats, has been a valuable experience.

Bron Afon’s director of property, Keith Wrate, added:

“The blocks were revitalised as part of the programme of work, which will transform the appearance of this area.”

Success for ATBS and Alumasc at the Home Building and Renovating Show

The National Homebuilding and Renovating Show is the UK’s largest self-build and renovation event – which is why it provided the perfect showcase for a new collaboration between two industry innovators.

Advanced Thermal Build Solutions (ATBS) is a design and build company, that utilises both the revolutionary Insulated Concrete Formwork system Sunbloc and the flooring system V-Tec.

Sunbloc is the latest and most advanced system of its kind and the only ICF system to be designed and manufactured in the UK. It suits any application from simple extensions through to commercial builds up to five stories. Sunbloc provides an economic and environmentally friendly method of wall construction with optimum insulation for living accommodation. The system is of modular size, lightweight and robust, and is set out on site, then pump filled with concrete. The completed Sunbloc wall can then be finished using a simple render or traditional facings such as brick, tiles, brick slips or weather boarding. To compliment Sunbloc walls, the V-Tec flooring system has been designed to provide a clear span, reinforced and insulated concrete floor.

UnknownHaving used Alumasc Renders successfully on previous projects, an installer at ATBS suggested that their facade systems might be suitable for use with Sunbloc. Discussions followed and Alumasc were invited to join ATBS on their stand at the Homebuilding and Renovating Show at the NEC in Birmingham in April. In combination they provided a rapid build system, enabling a basement plus 2 storey extension to a Nisa store, to be completed within 7 days, followed by an application of Alumasc’s Silkolitt silicone render – much to the proprietor’s delight.

Managing Director of ATBS, Hallam Funke explains: “In addition to a number of other finishes we use with Sunbloc, Alumasc’s Silkolitt Silicone Render and Acrylic Brick Slips work seamlessly with our systems and have already produced impressive results on 3 of our projects.

“Alumasc’s Area Sales Manager Nigel Walters certainly went the extra mile in spending a whole day on our stand, helping our many visitors with their facade-related questions”.

He adds: “At ATBS we like to build strategic partnerships with key industry colleagues and very much look forward to future collaborations with Alumasc.”

BlogPic1Nigel Walters of Alumasc concludes: “The new products from ATBS are exciting and innovative and sit perfectly within the Alumasc sustainability ethos. It was a pleasure
spending time with them at the show, which will hopefully lead to a number of joint opportunities in the not-too-distant future.”

Alumasc’s thin-coat ST Silkolitt silicone renders are used to create a contemporary finish in both new-build and re-modelling applications. They are highly water-repellent, vapour permeable, weather resistant and available in a range of colours.

The Alumasc Acrylic Brick Slip system offers an easy to apply, lightweight, high performance realistic brick finish, where the use of real bricks would not be viable.

Alumasc to Exhibit at ‘Explore Offsite’ Event

EO Button - Plain

Alumasc Facades will be exhibiting the innovative, new Alumasc Ventilated System (AVS) at this years’ Explore Offsite: a series of one day conferences and exhibitions which offer a platform for construction clients and their advisers to explore the latest offsite construction solutions.

The events will consist of a conference of around 180 delegates and an exhibition of approximately 25-30 companies from a range of offsite technology providers including; timber frame, light steel frame, precast concrete, bathroom pods, volumetric buildings, building services plus CLT, glulam and a range of hybrid technologies.

The Alumasc Ventilated System (AVS) offers an alternative approach to traditional build, particularly for structural timber. It provides an engineered, stylish facade solution, with the option of utilising modern off-site construction techniques. The system is designed to provide a fully ventilated cavity, which keeps the timber substrate moisture-free, and is compatible with both render and brick slip finishes.

The events take place on the 23rd & 24th March 2016 at the NEC, Birmingham. Tickets are available from the Explore Offsite website. View the list of speakers.

New pictures of DIY SOS Project reveal amazing transformation using Alumasc Render

After1Nick Knowles and the BBC DIY SOS team have spent two weeks transforming 2 streets in Newton Heath, Manchester for army veterans and their families. The project, the team’s largest undertaking to date, involved hundreds of volunteers, including Alumasc Facades who have installed Alumasc M.R. S5 Render to the external facades of 62 homes.

New pictures have been revealed, showing the true extent of the transformation of the properties in New Street and Canada Street. Three larger homes were also created to house veterans and their families, including a walk-in support centre. 17 of the homes will be run by charity Haig Housing, with the aim to create a special veterans’ community.

Regional Sales Manager Andrew Gait comments on completion of the project:

Before“It goes without saying that Alumasc Facades was very proud to be involved in the big build for DIY SOS. From start to finish, the project was a massive team effort – all the contractors and suppliers on site were highly supportive of each other and our only objective was to provide a much-needed community for some of our most deserving war veterans.

“The M.R S5 Polymer Plain Render has created a stunning clean finish to the homes and will provide a reinforcing layer to the mortar, protecting against weather, damp, pollutants and impact damage.

“It’s been an absolute pleasure working alongside the BBC on a ground-breaking project – and despite the challenges of getting the entire installation finished in 12 days, I know that none of our team would hesitate in doing it again.”

Don’t miss the full story, broadcast over 2 episodes, starting this Wednesday, 14th, on BBC1 at 8pm and concluding on Wednesday 21st at the same time.

Alumasc Supports 2014 Christmas Gift Appeal

gift appeal croppedAlumasc is proud to have supported a gift appeal for children aged 0-18 years old run by St. Helens Council’s Children and Young People’s Service, the purpose of which was to help make a difference to the lives of underprivileged children in St Helens.

To help bring back the magic of Christmas to those who aren’t as lucky as most of us, The Children and Young People’s Service asked local individuals and companies to buy an extra gift whilst doing their Christmas shopping and to drop it at a nearby collection point.

Staff from Alumasc came together to support the cause, donating a selection of gifts suitable for a variety of ages to help bring smiles to the faces of local children.

Childrens Centre CroppedCouncillor Alison Bacon, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People’s Services said:

“It is very sad that while most people look forward to the festive season there are children in St Helens who have little or nothing to look forward to with the arrival of Santa very unlikely. This is why this appeal is so important to help families out at this time of year.”

Linda Sweeney from Alumasc says:

“This is such a worthwhile initiative to support. There are children out there who won’t get a single present this Christmas for one reason or another. Knowing how much other children will receive this Christmas, it is great to help those less fortunate by giving them a special gift and making them happy

The presents were distributed to local Children, who without the campaign, would otherwise have been left with no gifts at Christmas.

The Insulated Render and Cladding Association (INCA) 2014 Awards were presented by former England cricketer Darren Gough at a black-tie gala dinner on 16 October in front of 300 industry guests.

The awards showcased how External Wall Insulation has been used successfully over the past year to ensure buildings are not only energy efficient but have a positive impact on the people who live or work in them and the wider community.

Alumasc Façade Systems were shortlisted for 5 projects and were delighted that three of these were highly commended by INCA:

Domestic Refurbishment – Low Rise:
– Elm Grove Flats, Newcastle Upon Tyne
– The Green, Essex

Domestic Refurbishment – High Rise:
– Sunningdale, Merseyside

Following on from the huge success of last year’s inaugural event and with support from a range of stakeholders including CITB, E.ON and QANW, the event at the prestigious Sheraton Park Lane Hotel in London was the perfect platform to showcase how EWI is ‘Transforming Buildings, Changing Lives’ to the benefit of individuals, families and local communities.

INCA Chairman Pádraig Barry, undertaking his first official engagement since being elected in July, said:

“It has been a difficult year for the EWI industry and changes to ECO and GDHIF have left many with a feeling of uncertainty. That is why I am particularly proud to see our members rising to the challenge in the Awards and it was very rewarding to see the wide range of projects that not only demonstrate skill and innovation, but have helped so many people in fuel poverty.”

Alumasc would like to congratulate all involved with Kilburn Gate in London, a 1950s residential development which claimed the Project of the Year Award.
